Weston Swimmers/Divers love their sport - and pass it on

Many Weston Swimmers and Divers love their sport so much that they are coaches in the off-season.
This was never more evident that at the August 2, ICC Summer Swim/Dive Championship Meet.
5 of 6 clubs at the meet have boasted at least one member of their coaching staff from WHS in the last 2 seasons.

Don't dive in that pool!

The Pool closed down on July 31 for repairs.
For the first time in over 20 years, the pool was drained
so that damaged tiles on the bottom could be replaced.

JUNE 2014


Weston Boys take 5th NISCA National Title in 14 years
The National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) recently released their 2014 HS Team Rankings.
With a team total of 4,651 points, the Weston Boys made it back-to-back National Titles in Class 1 - 
public high schools with 900 students or less - and five such title in fourteen seasons.

NISCA ranks Weston Girls #2 in U.S.

In their annual National Dual Meet Rankings, the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA)
ranked the Weston High Girls number two in the country for Public Schools with 900 students or less.
This is the GLOWS highest ranking, ever, and their 4,924-point team total is also an all-time best.
Congratulations, GLOWS!

MAY 2014


Congratulations Eric Nilsson, Tide '06:
from May 1-4, Eric swam in the
2014 Nationwide US Masters Nationals.
Swimming against several former
Olympic Gold Medalists,
Eric took four individual National Titles.
He won the 500 free (4:27.24),
100 free (9:25.67), 200 fly (1:49.34),
and 400 IM (3:56.30) in the
25 - 29 age group.  Eric also swam
in the 100 free (45.99 for 7th)
and 200 free (1:37.53 for 2nd).

APRIL 2014


Members of the Boys' State Championship Team,
individual Girl State Champions, and their coaches,
visited the Massachusetts State House on April 2,
as guests of Rep. Alice Piesch, and were recognized by The House.

MARCH 2014


At the NCAA Division I 
Swimming and Diving
Championships in March,
Jack Blyzinskyj (Tide '13)
swam a 46.36 in the 100 Back
to place 16th, overall.

FEBRUARY 2014


On February 18-22,
at the 2014 SEC Swim Championships,
Tide Alum Jack Blyzinskyj ('13)
took 4th in the 100 backstroke (46.48),
18th in the 200 backstroke (1:44.37),
18th in the 100 butterfly (46.89),
and swam the opening leg on Florida's
3rd place medley relay (3:05.65).

the Weston Girls took second place
at the MIAA Div. II State Championships.

and Mikaela Thompson 

for winning individual State Titles
at the MIAA Div II State Meet.
It was Victoria's first individual state win
(shown below, left, winning at MIT)
while Mikaela made it back-to-back victories
(shown below, right, diving at Sectionals.)

On February 14-16, at the Women's
2014 NESCAC Championships
at Bowdoin College,
Tide Alum and current Middlebury
swimmer Maddie Pierce (WHS '12)
placed 14th in the 200 IM (2:12.24),

and 17th in the 200 Back (2:10.43).

The Tide had
a very special visitor:
Dara Torres, 5-time Olympian
and 12-time medalist,
spent over an hour
with the team.

Jack Blyzinskyj (WHS '13) is continuing
his swim career with the Florida Gators.
On Saturday, January 25,

Jack had a big swim in the 100 backstroke
against Auburn - 47.57.

On Friday, January 24, against Hopkinton, Victoria Bryson
and Mikaela Thompson each set new records for Weston.
Victoria set a new Pool Record of 23.77 in the 50-yard Freestyle.
Mikaela's 307.60-point total for six dives set both a Pool
and Varsity Record in the six-dive format.

Also against Hopkinton,
Sam Cekala became just the 23rd swimmer
in Weston High School history to score
1,000 career points for The tide.

DECEMBER 2013


Congratulations to, L to R, Meg Peacher, Anna Tseng,
Natalie Casey, Katerina Georgakopoulos, Bella DiPietro,
Cristina Chiocca, Paige Holman, and Katrina Angelucci;
on 12/23/13, these eight freshman girls combined
to establish new rookie records in all three relays.
