Weston Girls are National Champions
The National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) named the Weston girls' team
National Champions in Class 5 - Girls' teams from public schools with under 900 students.
It was the first-ever National Title for the girls' program.

Weston Boys ranked second in the country
After two straight National Titles, Weston's Boys continued to score high, nationally, with a 2nd place finish in the NISCA rankings.
The Tide was runner up to Hamilton (MI) High School in Class 1 - boys' teams from public high schools with less than 900 kids.

4/28/15: State Champs on-field at Fenway
On Tuesday, April 28, the Red Sox honored MIAA State Championship teams,
before the game. Both The GLOWS and Tide boys were recognized.
4/9/15: EMISCA Honors Weston Staff
On Thursday, April 9, the Eastern Mass. Interscholastic Swim Coaches' Association
held their annual banquet at The Chateau Restaurant, in Waltham.
Parent volunteers Bob and Shannon Burrow were recognized
with the association's Meritorious Service Award,
Diving Coach Zach Lichter was named EMISCA's North Assistant Coach of the Year,
and Head Coach Claude Valle was cited as the North Girls' Coach of the Year.

4/8/15: State Champs visit State House
On Wednesday, April 8, both the girls' and boys' State Teams
visited The State House, as guests of Rep. Alice Peisch.

Along the way, the teams also met Massachusetts Governor
Charlie Baker (far below, left), and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh (far below, right.)

3/31/15: Chow, Blaesser, Thompson,
and Avila named Academic All America
Each year, the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches' Association
recognizes deserving high school seniors as NISCA Academic All Americans.
To be cited, individuals must have a 3.75 CUM, or higher, on the NISCA scale,
and score points at the State Championship Meet. This year, four members
of The Tide were recognized. Pictured below (L to R) are 2015 honorees
Kyle Chow, Alan Blaesser, Mikaela Thompson, and Julimar Avila.
3/23/15: Diving Coach Zach Lichter named
NCAA Div. 3 Girls' National Diving COY
Weston Diving Coach Zach Lichter, also Diving Coach at Wellesley College,
was recently recognized by the NCAA as their
2015 Girls' National Diving Coach of the Year.

On Senior Day versus Hopkinton, Weston Swimmer Natasha Joglekar was named the 2015 DCL Courage Award Winner. Given annually to an athlete demonstrating extraordinary courage and perseverance, Waltham AD Bill Foley (left) presented the honor to the senior, who is currently undergoing Chemo. Weston AD Mike McGrath (right) was also on hand. |
1/23/15: Four Pool and one Varsity Record set on Senior Day
On Senior Day against Hopkinton, The GLOWS established four new Pool Records, and one Varsity Record.
Pictured below, L to R, Caroline Bryson, Julimar Avila, Cristina Chiocca, Katrina Angelucci, and Mikaela Thompson.
Bryson, Avila, Chiocca, and Angelucci set a Pool Record of 1:48.39 in the 200-yd. Medley Relay, breaking the
previous mark of 1:50.06, set by Bianca Tocci, Maddie Pierce, Katie Kim, and Victoria Bryson, in 2012.
It was the second fastest medley in team history. Individually, Avila set new Pool Records
in the 100 freestyle (51.49) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.86), both breaking marks set by Eliza Butts, in 2006.
Thompson bested her own Pool and Varsity marks in the diving with a total of 340.80 points for six dives.

11/30/14: Volunteer Assistant and Tide Alum Tucker Wetmore ('06) competes in The Ironman, in Cozumel, Mexico
Participating in a field of 2,800 athletes, Tucker finished 48th in the 25-29 age group.
He was also 5th coming out of the swim, overall. Congratulations, Tucker!

9/1/14: Assistant Coaches Bob Burrow and Rip Reeves
successfully conquer The English Channel
Leaving the Port of Dover at 9:10pm EST on 8/31/14,
Bob and Rip were part of a 5-person team to swim across The English Channel, relay-style.
Each of the five athletes took approximate one-hour turns.
As it worked out, Rip swan the first leg, leaving England, and Bob swam the final leg,
arriving in France at 8:23am EST on 9/1/14, making their time an impressive 11 hours, 13 minutes.
Their group finished first of all relays swimming The Channel, that day.
