8/5/17: Weston connections throughout the ICC

At the ICC Summer League Championships, on August 5, half the clubs
had connections to the Weston High Swim/Dive program.
Weston Golf Club, Wellesley Country Club, and Woodland Golf Club
all had coaches who are a part of the Weston Swimming & Diving Team.

7/15/17: NISCA releases
2017 National HS Rankings -
​program is #1 in the country

The National Interscholastic Swimming
Coaches Association (NISCA)
released its 2017 rankings
of high school teams
from across the country.
Weston's girls ranked number two
in the nation, while the boys
were number four, overall.
Combined, Weston was
the number one small-school
girls/boys program (enrollment under 900)
in the United States.

and Andrew Haimovici
each named a
Weston High School
Chandler Award winner

Swimmers Katrina Angelucci and
Andrew Haimovici were each named
winners of WHS's Chalnder Award.
Given to the outstanding student-athlete
in the senior class, Angelucci is a
three-sport, All-Star standout for Weston,
while Haimovici was part of 10 State
Championships in his 12 seasons with
​Weston's Crew and Swimming Teams.

5/15/17: Eight Weston seniors
named Academic All-America

An impressive eight members of
Weston's Class of 2017
were tabbed NISCA
Academic All-Americans.
With minimum standards of a 3.75 CUM
and scoring at the State Championships,
it is a select group.

4/8/17: Angelucci and
Girls Freestyle Relays
named All-Scholastic

The Boston Globe named
senior Katrina Angelucci to their
All-Scholastic team in the 50-yard Freestyle.
The GLOWS' 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays
were also recognized.  Angelucci was
​also named to the Herald team in the 50 Free.

3/25/17: Blyzinskyj completes
storied career at Florida

At the 2017 NCAA Men's
Swimming and Diving Championships, at IUPUI,
Weston grad Jack Blyzinskyj ('13)
completed his collegiate career.
Highlighted by a second-place finish
in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay,
Jack helped Florida to a third-place team finish.
Blyzinskyj graduated as a school-record-holder
in the 200 Medley Relay (1:23.08),
400 Medley Relay (3:03.86),
and 200 Free Relay (1:14.88).
He also graduated as number two
on Florida's all-time list in the 100 Backstroke (45.41),
behind Ryan Lochte.

3/25/17: Coach Valle named
winner of NISCA's Robertson Award

At their annual conference, 
the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association
recognized Tide Head Coach Claude Valle
with the David H. Robertson Excellence in Coaching Award.
Given to high school swim coaches in recognition of
winning five or more team State Championships,
Valle's squads won seven such titles
​in his first nine seasons as head coach.

2/19/17: Weston Boys are 3rd
​at MIAA D2 State Championships

With 27 of 28 performances being lifetime bests,
the Weston Boys raced to a third-place at the
MIAA Swimming & Diving State Championships.
Highlights included sophomore Dale Nickerson
winning the Scott Pomerleau Diving Award,
and a title by Weston's 400 Freestyle Relay.

​2/18/17: GLOWS take 2nd
at MIAA D2 State Meet 

With a great overall team effort,
Weston's girls finished in second
the the State Swim/Dive Championships.
Highlights included an individual title
from Katrina Angelucci in the 50 Free,
and a win by the 200 Freestyle Relay.

2/16/17: Weston's Thompson
defends Ivy League 1-m title

Weston grad ('15) and current Harvard
sophomore Mikaela Thompson
won the 2017 Ivy League
one-meter diving championship.
Her total of 290.55 points
led a 1-5-6-8-9-14 finish
​for the Crimson in the event.

​With a strong overall team performance,
the Weston Girls took the runner-up spot at the
2017 Girls DCL Swimming & Diving Championships.

1/27/17: Nickerson establishes varsity diving mark

In the final dual meet of the season, against Hopkinton,
sophomore Dale Nickerson set a new varsity record in the 1-meter diving.
His total of 334.10 points for six dives eclipsed the previous mark
of 330.55 points set by Nick Burkus in 2009.

1/27/17: Tide alum and Florida senior Jack Blyzinskyj
to swim in final home meet of career for Gators

According to Scott Carter of FloridaGators.com, Jack Blyzinskyj (WHS '13)
is one of the unsung heroes of the Florida Gator swim program.
Carter featured Jack on the site in anticipation of the team's Senior Day.

1/26/17: Tide alum offering advice to current swimmers

Weston alum ('08) and one time holder of five state records, Graham Frankel,
has been back at the Weston pool, giving tips to Weston athletes.
A Harvard grad, he is completing both Medical School and an MBA program,
at Harvard, and is helping The Tide on a part-time basis.
He has been joined by his brother, Rowan (WHS '06).

1/17/17: Senior Cristina Chiocca scores 1,000th career point

As part of a winning medley relay against Westwood, senior Cristina Chiocca
became just the 17th girl in the 45-year history of the Weston program
to score 1,000 career points.

1/17/17: Freshmen complete sweep ​of Rookie Relay Records

Against Westwood, the freshmen girls set a new first-year mark in the 200 Free Relay.
Their time of 1:46.04 eclipsed the previous record by just over a second
and completed a sweep of newcomer relay bests for the Class of 2020.

1/1/17: The Tide celebrates New Year's Day, together

Despite the holiday, 50-plus Weston swimmers - and alumni -
went to the pool for a challenging, three-hour workout.

12/20/16: Rookies break Frosh Medley Record

With the support of the current seniors they were chasing,
the current freshman group established a new first-year record
for the 200-yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:57.99
​in a home meet versus Medfield.

12/8/16: Freshmen-foursome break rookie mark
in 400 Freestyle Relay - by 14 seconds -
with a little help from their friends

In the opening meet of the '16-'17 season, The GLOWS freshman
set a new first-year standard of 3:48.98 in the 400-yard Free Relay.
The time broke the old mark of 4:02.13 set in '13 by the current seniors.
On hand
were three of the four seniors who set the old mark,
and in true GLOWS fashion, the trio stood right with the freshman,
behind the blocks, cheering them on to the new record.
