6/13/18: NISCA names
Dale Nickerson a
​Diving All-America
​ 

After a lengthy review of
diving video applications,
the NISCA Diving AA committee
posted their 2018 listings.
Weston junior Dale Nickerson
was one of 100 competitors 
from across the country
selected as an All-America.
Nickerson is the Red Tide's
first All-America since Jack Blyzinskyj
made the swim list in 2013, and
Weston's first diver since
Andrew Hastings made it in 1998.
He was undefeated in dual meets,
set new varsity records for both
six- and eleven-dive formats,
and was the only male diver
from Massachusetts to be
recognized this year
​as an All-America.

4/8/18: Boston Globe names six members
​of WHS Swimming & Diving Program to All-Scholastic Team

In the April 8 edition of The Boston Sunday Globe, the 2018 All-Scholastic teams
were announced.  Rookie Jacey Hinton was named, individually, for the Girls' Team
in the 100 Free (51.10), Weston's Girls' 400 Free Relay made the team (3:34.82),
and junior Dale Nickerson was named for Boys' Diving (580.80).

4/8/18: EMISCA cites five members of Tide Coaching Staff
On Sunday, April 8, at the Eastern Mass. Interscholastic Swim Coaches' Association's annual Banquet,
five members of Weston's coaching staff were recognized.  Jack Lewis was awarded Diving Coach of the Year,
Mike Gavin was named Assistant Coach of the Year, and alumni Tucker Wetmore, Rowan Frankel,
and Graham Frankel received Meritorious Service Awards for their volunteer coaching, for the past 7 seasons.

3/24/18: Tide coaches,
past and present,
​honored at NISCA Banquet

On Saturday, March 24, at NISCA's
Annual Award's Banquet, in Minneapolis, MIN,
former Tide Coach Pete Foley was inducted
into NISCA's National HS Swim Coaches'
Hall of Fame.  Current coach Claude Valle
was also cited with a Meritorious Service Award.
​Both were presented their awards by their sons.

FEBRUARY 2018


2/18/18: Tide is 4th at MIAA Div. 2 State Championship
​behind Nickerson's win in the 1-meter Diving


On Sunday, February 18, Weston's Boys' team took fourth at the State Meet.
Junior Dale Nickerson took the one-meter diving event with an 11-dive total
of 571.25 points, a margin of more than 30 points over second-place.
He also won the Scott Pomerleau Award for the second straight year,
given to the diver who scores the most points on a single dive, at the meet.
Senior Tom Yu (3rd in 100-yd. Free with a 48.69) and sophomore Ben Guzovsky
(5th in the 500 Free with a 4:48.18) also placed well.
All three of Weston's relays cracked the top-eight.

2/17/18: GLOWS take 2nd at MIAA Division 2 State Meet
behind wins from Hinton in the 100 free & their 200 free relay

On Saturday, February 17, Weston took the runner-up spot at the
MIAA Division 2 State Championships.  Freshman Jacey Hinton won the 100 free.
in 51.10, and the 200 free relay of Hinton (23.71), Katheryn Milligan (24.20),
Grazi Vezza (25.56), and mila Schowtka (24.62), also grabbed first, in 1:38.09.
It's the 21st consecutive season The GLOWS have placed in the top five,
and Weston's 15th second-place finish.

2/11/18: Nickerson
dominates the 1m board,
​team 9th at Sectionals

On Sunday, February 11,
Weston's Boys competed in
the MIAA North Sectional Championship
at the MIT pool.  Junior Dale Nickerson
dominated the diving competition,
setting a new school record of
580.80 points for 11 dives.
He won the title by 110 points.
Paced by solid relays and strong
individual swims by Tom Yu and
Ben Guzovsky, the team placed 9th.

2/10/18: GLOWS take 2nd place
at North Sectional Championships,
Freestyle Relay team wins two

On Saturday, February 10, Weston's Girls competed in the North Sectionals.  Freshman Jacey Hinton took four wins.
Her time of 1:51.04 in the 200-yard Freestyle established a new Meet Record.  Her clocking of 56.13 in the
100 Butterfly set a new Weston School Record, breaking the previous mark of 56.35, set by Julimar Avila,
during The GLOWS State-Title-winning season of 2015.  Hinton also swam to some impressive splits on both
Weston's Free Relays.  Her 22.85-split for the 50 Free on the second leg of the 200 Free Relay was an all-time
team best, and her 50.57 anchor for the 100 Free ​in the meet's final event, gave Weston a come-from-behind victory.

1/26/18: The Tide says
Farewell to eleven seniors

On Friday, January 26,
just prior to the Westwood meet,
the team honored The Class of 2018.
In addition to a great record of
accomplishment, the group
was thanked for being
strong leaders and role models
for the younger athletes in the program.

1/23/18: Senior Tom Yu
scores 1,000 Career Points

On Tuesday, January 23,
in a dual meet against Ashland,
with a win in the 200-yard Freestyle,
senior Tom Yu scored
​his 1,000th career point.
He became just the 25th swimmer
in the 46-year history of the program
to achieve this feat.

1/14/18: Girls take 5th
at Bay View Invitational,
​Hinton named top rookie

On Sunday, January 14, the girls' team traveled to
Brown University to race in the Bay View Invitational.
It was a great day of racing, with several girls
achieving lifetime-best performances.
Jacey Hinton was named Outstanding Freshman
of the Meet, winning both the 200 free (1:51.59)
and 100 free (51.33).  Both times established new
​Freshman Records for Weston.


1/12/18: Freshman Backstroke
​record switches hands

On Friday, January 12, against
Newton South, freshman Jacey Hinton
set a new Rookie Record of 57.83
in the 100-yard Backstroke.
Her time broke the previous mark
set by sophomore Katheryn Milligan,
last season.  Impressively, 
Milligan was the first on hand 
​to congratulate Hinton.

12/30/17: Former Word-Record Holder
and 1984 Olympic Silver Medalist,
Weston parent Alexander Schowtka
talks to the team about his Olympic journey

On Saturday, December 30, Weston parent Alexander Schowtka
spoke to the team after practice.  A former world-record holder 
and Olympic SIlver medalist ('84) in the 800 Freestyle Relay,
he shared his Olympic experience and lessons learned on his journey.

12/28/17: Nickerson
​breaks 11-dive marks

In the Tide Invitational Meet,
junior Dale Nickerson totaled
573.45 points for 11 dives,
establishing both new Pool
and School Records at Weston.
This broke marks of 525.85
and 557.35 both set by
​Andrew Hastings (WHS '98).

​12/22/17: Hinton breaks
​five records vs. Wayland

In the Weston-Wayland dual meet,
freshman Jacey Hinton set five
new Weston marks.  Her time of
2:08.37 in the 200-yard IM was a
new freshman and pool record,
her 57.02 win in the 100 Fly
was a another first-year best,
and her 23.59 lead-off 50 Free
split on the 200 Free Relay
was a new rookie and pool record.
Her time in the 50 Free
also qualified for 
​All-America consideration.

​12/15/17: Nickerson dives to
​a shocking 380-point total

In just the fourth meet of the season,
against Holliston-Medway co-op,
junior Dale Nickerson scored 
380.00 points, establishing a new
​varsity and pool record for six dives.

9/15/17: Tide Assistant Coach
Bob Burrow completes solo
​crossing of English Channel

On September 15th, Tide Assistant Coach Bob Burrow
completed a solo-crossing of the English Channel.
Accompanied by the Viking Princess, Bob began
at 7am, ​British Standard Time, on 9/15.
He is pictured, to the right, the day before his swim,
​complete with Weston attire.
